We would like to wish our employees, our clients, and our community a very blessed Easter. While Good Friday was a time of mourning of His suffering and death, today we rejoice in his resurrection. He died and rose again. He lives and so we too may have eternal life; this is the very basis of the Christian faith.
It is this message of hope and love that is a comfort for many and the true meaning of Easter as a time of thanks and renewal. We are excited to announce that through the commitment of our loss prevention team, and the cooperation and support of our entire staff, Super Sucker Hydro Vac Inc. is now COR certified.
Since our start in 2001, Super Sucker has always considered the safety of our employees, clients, and the public as a cultural and foundational value. As part of our ongoing commitment to safety for everyone, we have continued to invest in extensive training programs and innovative technological solutions. We have an engaged loss prevention team, working both internally to develop and maintain procedural and compliance documentation, as well as in the field, actively assisting and advising our crews to optimize on-site safety. Our employees have embraced this safety-focused approach, not only demonstrating work safe practices each and every day, but also providing valuable feedback so we can continue to improve.
As a nationally trademarked accreditation program, under the jurisdiction of Infrastructure Health and Safety (IHSA) in Ontario, CORTM (Certificate of Recognition) “is aimed at driving positive workplace behaviour and practices that lead to improved performance”. (Source: https://www.ihsa.ca/COR ).
Utilizing an evidence-based approach, including comprehensive internal and external audits, this program is an assessment of an organization’s health and safety management system, define by the IHSA as,
“a framework put in place by employers to manage risks, establish controls, and minimize the incidence of injury and illness to their workers. This is accomplished through identifying, assessing, and controlling risks to workers in all workplaces. In order to achieve CORTM, Super Sucker was able to demonstrate that we had not only developed a health and safety management system, but it has been fully implemented and evaluated. Our staff was able to demonstrate extensive knowledge and practices, supported through the results of an internal audit, and further verified by an external audit from the IHSA. The IHSA CORTM Audit Tool has 19 elements – 13 common to all participating provinces, and 6 supplemental elements specific to Ontario.
The national standard, which is adhered to by IHSA in Ontario, requires firms to score a minimum of 65% in each element and an overall audit score of 80%. Super Sucker was successful on our initial attempt with an overall score of 97%. As of March 31, 2017 there are currently less than 200 hundred organizations listed on the IHSA CORTM certified list. We are serious about safety, and like the IHSA, we believe that protecting the health and safety of workers is the right thing to do and achieving CORTM certification is a recognition that we are on the right track. But this doesn’t mean we are done.
